And once again, he brought his cousin, Detroit (Mich.) King 2017 cornerback Ambry Thomas, along for the ride. As the talented duo sat down with U-M’s coaching staff for a few hours, getting a full tutorial on coach Don Brown’s defensive schemes.
“Me and a couple of the guys sat down and watched film, we went over it,” Kelly-Powell said. “It’s pretty easy.”
It seems Kelly-Powell’s attitude towards Michigan, is easy going as well.
“I am comfortable with those guys,” Kelly-Powell said of Michigan. “I got the inside people with Jourdan Lewis and Delano Hill, those type of guys tell me how it is. And then I go meet the coaches and see if it matches up -- it all matches up.”
As far as Kelly-Powell and Thomas, well, their plan is to play together at the next level, says the four-star safety.
“Our mindset is that we are trying to go to school together,” Kelly-Powell said of committing to the same school as Thomas.
“We haven’t really talked too much about (a specific date). But we’re trying to announce on the same day.”
One thing is for sure, Kelly-Powell and Thomas both plan to graduate early and enroll in the program of their choice in January. That being said, Kelly-Powell admits he still isn’t close to announcing his decision.
“I still need to see a couple schools and sit down with my family,” he said.
Kelly-Powell says he plans to checkout Penn State, Virginia Tech and Oregon this summer.
