In fact, the hated rivals are both trying to land Scout’s No. 23 defensive end prospect out of Beaver Falls (Pa.) High, Donovan Jeter, who named both the Wolverines and Buckeyes in his latest top-five this week.
“Those are two of the top schools in the country so I think about them a lot,” he said.
Further discussing his thoughts on U-M.
“Michigan, I like their defensive line coach (Greg Mattison) he was the Ravens defensive coordinator for a couple years and he coached Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs,” Jeter said. “They had the best defense in the league almost every year, that would be my position coach. That's kind of big to me.”
As for OSU, Jeter got familiar with their program during a visit last summer.
“I visited them last summer for a three-day camp and I just had a really good feeling,” he said. “It felt like home over there. I like Ohio State a lot.”
Jeter has yet to visit Michigan, but says a possible visit may happen this summer before he make his final decision made, noting along with the Wolverines, he may checkout Alabama, Notre Dame and Michigan State.
“My biggest factors with my choice, I want to play on a big time stage for a big program,” Jeter said. “I don't want to go to a mediocre program.”
Adding: “I'm probably going to be around close friends and family. I'll tweet it out but I don't want to have a big press conference and all over TV. I'm just going to do it in my house.”
And before he makes his decision known, he admits he’ll look to himself only to lean on to make his commitment known.
“It's probably just going to be me, I'm the one that's going to be putting the pads on. No one is going to put the pads on for me. I'm going to take my parents and take into consideration my brother -- honestly mine is the most important,” he said.
