Texas Standout Talks Michigan

Missouri City (Texas) Ft. Bend Elkins High 2017 LB Kenneth Murray updates his recruitment with Michigan and more.

Michigan and 2017 LB Kenneth Murray continue to build their relationship, says the four-star prospect out of Missouri City (Texas) Ft. Bend Elkins High, who noted his growing relationship with U-M LB coach Chris Partridge.

"It's been a good rise. I mean, Coach Partridge, I talk to him all the time and saw him a couple weeks ago. They're recruiting me pretty hard,” Murray told The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb recently.

What does he like about Partridge exactly? Well, Murray notes they have care free attitude together.

“We (are) always joking around and it's been a good connection,” he said of Partridge.

Murray, however, has yet to meet Michigan’s headman himself, Jim Harbaugh, but the two of them have an ongoing texting relationship, he says.

“Actually I text him all the time, probably a weekly thing,” he said of Harbaugh. “I have his number and stuff like that. … It's a lot of non-football stuff, just stuff that you need in day to day life. Motivational stuff you can do everyday."

While Murray hasn’t been up to U-M’s campus yet, he says his plan it try to attend one of Michigan’s satellite camps in either Dallas or Houston later this month.

"I'm going to try to make it to one of those,” he said, noting it would most likely be the Houston camp. “It's really in my backyard, so I'm going to do my best to get out there."

With already 20 offers to his name, Murray has yet to name a top-five in his recruitment. Although, he admits, he has an idea of what he is looking for in program.

"Definitely (looking at) the academics,” he said. “My relationship with the family environment and those who are real and having a good relationship with the coaches. That's pretty much it."

And distance will not play a factor, he says.

"That's not a factor with me at all. I'm fine being close or away,” he said.

As far as a decision timeline, Murray says he will most likely make his commitment known during a post-season All-Star game or event.

"I really don't know. I want it to be before the season if I don't get to the All-American game. If I do get invited to the All-American game, it's possible at the All-American game but I'm an early enrollee so I won't be doing it on signing day."
