Harbaugh wears Archie Manning's jersey as backup

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh explains why he chose to wear Archie Manning's jersey today at U-M's satellite camp in Pearl, Ms.

PEARL, Ms. -- Jim Harbaugh had to go with his back up plan.

In his latest trend of wearing jerseys in Michigan's satellite camp tour, Harbaugh wore Archie Manning's New Orleans Saints jersey today at U-M's camp at Pearl (Ms.) high school. Manning, of course, starred at nearby Ole Miss from 1968-70, and played his entire NFL career with the Saints.

However, Manning wasn't Harbaugh's first choice.

Who was? Well, Walter Payton was obviously, who starred locally at Jacksonville State in the late 70s and was a teammate of Harbaugh's with the Chicago Bears. The problem was Harbaugh couldn't find a Payton jersey to wear. And he already "had" a Manning jersey in his wardrobe.

So, hence the reason for his Manning choice.

"Both class acts, real winners all the way," Harbaugh said of Manning and Payton afterwards.

Next up, Harbaugh heads to Paramus (N.J.) Catholic for his second satellite camp later today.
