BEAVERTON, Ore. – One of the few international prospects at Nike’s The Opening Finals, 2017 cornerback Benjamin St. Juste is using his opportunity this week to a build a bond with his future Michigan teammates.
In fact, St. Juste, who committed to Michigan back in June 2015, hails from Canada, where he stars at Montreal (Que.) Cégep du Vieux. So naturally, this is his first opportunity to meet some of his future U-M teammates for the first time.
“It’s great,” St. Juste said. “Right now we are at the hotel together. We are on the field together. So it’s great when you get to communicate, talk and create a bonding (experience). So we become friends, and maybe future teammates. I know we have (six) commits right now (at The Opening). But there is probably couple other players here that can play for Michigan.”
Who is St. Juste recruiting to Michigan? Well, he says pretty much all of his teammates on team Hypercool.
“Right now I know Nico Collins has Michigan as his leader,” St. Juste said. “I really think he’s about to commit. Donovan Peoples-Jones I think has Michigan in the mix. I want him at Michigan, but I’m not sure about his recruiting situation. We got Drew Singleton at linebacker, Jaylen Kelly-Powell form (Detroit) Cass Tech, I think he will commit to Michigan. Ambry Thomas is on my team, so that’s a couple players there.”
When he’s not recruiting this week, St. Juste is also using this experience as a chance to prove players from Canada can compete with the best.
“I know competition in Canada is not the same as in the U.S.,” St. Juste said. “But I think I have great talent. I think I just came to show up. I don’t think I will have difficulty to adapt the talent. I think it’s just a great opportunity to showcase my talent and get better. I don’t think I need to adapt, I don’t think I’m behind the other players.”
