O'Maury Samuels Talks Opening Experience

Michigan 2017 RB commit O'Maury Samuels discusses his experience at The Opening Finals and more.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Los Lunas (N.M.) 2017 running back O'Maury Samuels had the unique opportunity this past weekend to play on the same team as some of future Michigan teammates.

Five Michigan commits altogether played on team Hypercool, including: Samuels, (QB commit) Dylan McCaffrey, (RB) A.J. Dillion, (CB) Benjamin St. Juste and (LB) Josh Ross.

“It’s awesome man, the competition is great,” Samuels said of his experience participating a The Opening Finals.  “It was good to bond with the top guys in the nation. I get to bond with my (future) teammates. It’s just an awesome feeling.”

Adding: “It’s good to bond with those guys and get to know them better. Before you go off to college and hangout with them the next four years, it’s huge. That bond is great.”

Team Hypercool was also loaded with some of U-M’s top prospects as well. So, was Samuels doing his best to recruit them to Ann Arbor?

“Yes,” he said. “Drew Singleton, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins, guys like that, they’re so good, we just need to get them on the team.”

Although, none of them were too upfront of where they will end up going, says Samuels.

“Not sure yet, they are so-so, of course they are not going to tell us,” Samuels said. “But we’re convincing.”

Adding: “To me it’s like, they think about it, they’re considering us.”

In the meantime, Samuels say his plan is to enjoy his upcoming season at Los Lunas High.

“I just want to have fun and enjoy this season,” Samuels said. “Enjoy my last year of high school, get prepared for college – that’s really it man.”
