On Saturday, Xavier Goldsmith joined some of his Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech teammates for U-M’s annual recruiting event “Barbecue at the Big House,” and walked away, he says, with a positive experience.
“It was great opportunity to meet a lot of great players and coaches,” Goldsmith said of Michigan visit. “It was a wonderful environment. I got to see a lot of the facilities. It was just an overall great time. We had fun with the scavenger hunt. We just had a great time.”
During his time on campus, Goldsmith says he had a chance to spend time with Michigan’s defensive coaching staff, including coach Don Brown, Michael Zordich and Brian Smith.
“We were just having fun around the campus,” he said, noting they were giving him encouragement on his trip. “They told me to keep working hard. Just keep building a relationship moving forward.”
Currently, Goldsmith has offers from Temple, Kent State, Toledo, Cincinnati and Army, with Maryland and Oklahoma also showing interest, he says. And while no offer from Michigan has been made, yet, and offer he says would mean a lot in his recruitment.
“That would be real big,” he said. “I couldn’t even, I would be speechless.”
Next up, Goldsmith says he wants to see more of what U-M’s football program has to offer on his next visit to campus.
“Really, I want to see more of their facilities, more of the sports side,” he said. “I have seen the educational side. I haven’t really been up here as much. I just want to see more of the campus.”
