Los Lunas (N.M.) 2017 running back O’Maury Samuels made his return trip to Ann Arbor since coming for the spring game and shortly later giving his verbal pledge to the Wolverines. This time, he was on hand for Michigan’s BBQ at the Big House and reflects back at his enjoyable, but also relaxing time.
“It was good and I had a fun time,” Samuels told The Michigan Insider. “Not really (did I do any recruiting), but I just enjoyed my time with the players and coaching staff.”
Samuels said the main coach he talked with during the BBQ was running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and found out what his plans are with him once he arrives on next season.
“Coach Wheatley was just telling AJ (Dillon) and I that he's happy to see us building a good relationship and he just talked to me about how he would coach me,” said Samuels. “Coach Wheat says he wants to make my strengths even better.”
The 5-foot-10, 188-pounder has also begun to build strong friendships with other members in the class including fellow running back commit, A.J. Dillon. The two played together in Beaverton, Oregon for the Opening Finals on team Hypercool earlier this summer and further strengthen that friendship at the BBQ.
“AJ is my boy (laughter),” said Samuels. “It’s great and we've been building a good friendship.”
As for his visit plans, Samuels looks to make it out a couple different places this fall including Ann Arbor.
“I'm taking an official to Michigan soon and I'm taking officials to other schools as well,” said Samuels. “I’m not sure which schools I'll be going to yet.”
