With notable offers from Missouri, Iowa State, Kentucky and Toledo, 2019 wide receiver Julian Barnett's sophomore season is already off to a hot start, as helped lead Belleville (Mich.) to 40-19 victory against Plymouth Salem (Mich.) on Saturday.
His highlight, of course, was his touchdown grab in the win.
"I saw defenders and all I thought about was what my teammates, what my coach was going to do after the game when we get to practice so I just had to get through it,” Barnett said. “When No. 7 was on me I got through it and got the touchdown, looking for my money again."
Adding: "My quarterback, we have a connection now so we had a connection in the winter time when we first came to the school. We were talking, we had classes together and so we've been getting good at it. We just throw balls to each other and stuff like that."
Besides his notable offers, Barnett is starting to hear form top in-state schools too, noting he visited MSU for a practice in August.
"It was this month, I know that for sure. I went up there for a practice,” he said. “I like the Spartans. I love them."
And he’s also been up to Michigan’s campus numerous times as well, he says.
"I be up there all the time, working with my brothers,” he said.
Is an offer from U-M pending?
"I don't know,” he said. “They give me hints but at the same time, I'm just waiting on it."
That being said: What will play into his decision?
"Mostly, I want to go to school because I want to do something big with my life after football so it's got to be academics, for sure. First thing, academics,” he said.
Barnett says he has no early leaders in his recruitment.
