From the AP:

"Michigan defensive back Marlin Jackson, the preseason Big Ten defensive player of the year, will not play in Wolverines' season opener after being suspended by coach Lloyd Carr. 'Marlin is not going to play in the first game,' Carr told the Detroit Free Press. 'It's a disciplinary action. That's all I'm going to say."

And more from the Detroit Free Press on team info:

"Carr said he expects seven true freshmen to play this season ... Shawn Crable and LaMarr Woodley ... [Prescott] Burgess and [Ryan] Mundy ... Leon Hall, ... Garrett Rivas ... Jerome Jackson. 'I think they can all contribute on special teams,' Carr said."

"Carr raved about ... David Underwood. 'The thing is, he's powerful and he's fast,' Carr said. 'When he gets into the secondary, he's a big kid to tackle."

"Pat Massey will start ahead of Alain Kashama against two-back formations. Kashama will play more in pass-rushing situations."
