Lexington, KY. — One of the top high school games in the Bluegrass State this past Friday was Lafayette vs. Madison Central. Both teams came in with only one blemish on each of their resumes and a lot to play for. The Generals battled all night against the Indians, but finally pulled away in the second half 49-31 by a strong performance from their rushing attack behind mammoth four-star offensive tackle, Jedrick Wills.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder returned to action after missing the last few games due to a turf toe injury, but showed why so many programs covet his services with his great frame, physicality and nasty streak.
Following the big win, Wills talked about the latest with his recruitment including his recent official visit to Ann Arbor.
“It was crazy. I got down there, I got to meet with (Head) Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and see (Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line) Coach (Tim) Drevno since last year sometime until last time I saw him,” said Wills. “It was great just being around those guys again and being around guys like Baron Browning, Cesar Ruiz, Alex Leatherwood and some other recruits that are really close to me and are like my teammates back at home. The visit was really special. Going down there to the Big House was just amazing with how big it is and the fans. The fanbase is just wild and I love them. It definitely met the expectations I had going into there like going to camps people always talked about Michigan and I never really got to go see it, so being down there gave me a better feel of things and I really liked it a lot.”
Wills wasn’t the only big-time offensive lineman on campus when he took his official visit as a few other top linemen prospects were on hand. From there, the Wolverine coaching staff put together an interesting recruiting pitch to those top linemen recruits along with Brooklyn (N.Y.) Poly Prep 2017 offensive tackle, Isaiah Wilson by dubbing them the “Fab 5” and looking to get them all to commit to Michigan.
“When we got down there, it started off as the great wall and of course Isaiah Wilson wasn’t there, but he is another one of my big buddies of mine like Alex, Baron and all of us,” said Wills. “We talk almost daily and we have a group message we got to since the Opening and five-star challenges, keeping up with each other’s seasons, wishing each other luck and goofing around like guys do. The Fab 5 thing I think can really be something and it is something special that Coach Drevno and Coach Harbaugh put together. Me and the guys speak on it and we also encourage each other to go wherever feels right to you and go where you feel like you will execute and get to the next level and what fits you best.”
Is there a real possibility the Fab 5 could happen?
“I believe so because when we all went down there on the visit, we all were amazed and just in awe of the Big House,” said Wills. “With Coach Harbaugh, he’s real close to us and really a nice guy. Definitely expects him to be the way he is and real close to us along with Tim Drevno, I like him a lot. I feel like Michigan fits us really well, so it could be a possibility.”
