Gay 'fell in love with Michigan this weekend'

Starkville (Ms.) 2017 four-star OLB Willie Gay says he "fell in love with Michigan this weekend."

Willie Gay didn’t know what to expect when he arrived on Michigan’s campus for his official visit this weekend.

But that can be a good thing.

And in Gay’s case, it was, as he gave the Wolverines a perfect score after his first visit to Ann Arbor.

“I would rank it a 10,” Gay said. “Because it’s more than I expected. I fell in love with Michigan this weekend.”

Adding: “It was great. It was more than I expected. I wanted to see something new and I really did. I really enjoyed every part of it. I hope I can come back soon.”

Part of Gay’s experience was his first Michigan home game, as he witnessed the Wolverines trounce Illinois 41-8.

“First, all the fans that attend the game, it just good to know you have a support system like that with the fans,” Gay said.

It also gave him a chance to dissect what U-M does so well defensively. More specifically, he was paying attention to certain Heisman worthy linebacker.

“Coach (Don) Brown is doing a very good job,” Gay said. “I was watching Jabrill Peppers play the whole game. Being that he plays the position they want me to play, I can really see myself playing that.”

Gay also paid close attention on how U-M utilized star freshman Rashan Gary.

“I really did like how they played Rashan Gary,” Gay said, who was also hosted by Gary during his visit. “I spent a lot of time with Rashan. He’s a very cool dude. I’m glad I got to spend some time with him.”

And Gary gave Gay some advice in his recruitment, too.

“He was just saying, ‘You know man, you’re going to have a lot of schools telling you what you want to hear. Just know that this place right here is really legit,’” Gay said of Gary.

On Sunday, Gay capped off his visit with a sit down chat with U-M coach Jim Harbaugh in his office.

“We just talked about how glad he was that I could make it up,” Gay said. “I told him that I really enjoyed everything. We talked about it a lot, really.”

Gay considers himself a soft-commit to Ole Miss. However, he said Michigan is being heavily considered in his recruitment. He plans on taking his next official visit to Florida State.

“I’m going to make a decision on signing day,” Gay said. “I’m not rushing anything. Just looking where I feel home the most.”
