'Best Guess' Recruit List: Quarterbacks

- Michigan commitment #11: Chad Henne (probable Sept. 13 unofficial visit, 6-3, 230 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 3.4 GPA) from West Lawn, Pa., Wilson. He committed to U-M on Aug. 7th. He visited U-M the June 20 weekend, after which U-M quarterback coach Scot Loeffler spent a day working his high school coach's camp. On May 13 Lloyd Carr spoke at the nearby Manheim Touchdown Club Banquet. As a junior he passed for 2,200 yards and 23 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. He is TheInsiders.com's #13 prospect.

- QB/Ath. Joseph Fields (TXAM Nike stats: 6-1, 215 lbs., 4.7 in the 40) from Houston Washington. After an excellent performance at the TXAM Nike Camp he told us his favorites are: "Michigan, Oklahoma and Nebraska." We visited with him in early June at Tom Lemming's photo shoot. As a junior Fields passed for 1,492 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he rushed for 666 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is TheInsiders.com's #62 Big 12 area prospect.

Running Backs

Michigan may possibly be looking for two three, running backs.

- Michigan Commitment #2: Max Martin (6-2, 210 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 305-lb. bench press, 2.5 GPA/24 ACT/1070 SAT) from Madison, Ala., Bob Jones (in the Huntsville area). He visited U-M May 27-28 and committed. He is from Chicago and U-M was his childhood favorite. He told us, "I'd been wanting to do it. I got there yesterday afternoon. I talked to Coach Carr right away, and committed on the spot!" He is U-M's top ‘big back' recruit. In eight games as a junior, Martin rushed for 1,069 yards (7.7 yards per carry); he also caught five passes for 133 yards and four more touchdowns; on defense was an outside linebacker in five games, making 53 tackles and two sacks. He is TheInsiders.com's #48 South prospect.

- Michigan Commitment #9: Mike Hart (5-10 185 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 3.75 GPA/1030 SAT) from Nedrew, N.Y., Onondaga. He visited U-M June 20, was offered, and committed. He has family in Detroit. As a junior he rushed for 2,667 yards (13.6 yards per carry) and 60 touchdowns in13 games. For his career he has 7,556 yards and 134 touchdowns, 40 touchdowns shy of the national record. He is TheInsiders.com's #23 Atlantic area prospect.

- Ja'Kouri Williams (2002 U-M Camper, 5-11, 180 lbs., 4.35 in the 40, 2.2 core GPA/18 ACT) from Plaquemine, La. In late June he reiterated to us that U-M leads. FSU may be co-FAVs. As a junior he ran for 1,470 yards (12.2 yards per carry) and 28 touchdowns. He has a U-M OFFER. With Williams at RB Palquemine finished10-0 each of the past two years in the regular season and 22-2 overall. He is TheInsiders.com's #48 prospect.

- Running back/fullback George Bell (Sept. 6 official visit, 5-11, 225 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 365 lb. Bench press, 2.5 GPA) from Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt. On Aug. 24 he told us, "I'm going to Michigan for the Sept. 6th weekend, for the Houston game. It'll be an official visit. I'm hoping Michigan offers me during my visit. I'm trying to make decision by the time I return to action, by the end of September." His favs: "NC-State (offer), Michigan, and Virginia Tech (offer)." He suffered an ACL in his third game as a junior. He is TheInsiders.com's #53 prospect, and Tom Lemmings #22 prospect.

- Greg Coleman (6-0, 205 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 2.6 GPA) from Iowa City, Iowa, West. He has gotten into legal trouble; we'll see what happens regarding his recruitment. In mid-Aug. he told us, "I still receive a couple letters a week from them, usually from Coach (Terry) Malone, but sometimes I get one from Coach (Lloyd) Carr. They just let me know they are still interested. Michigan is my number one school, they offered me last year and I love everything about them." He attended the U-M Nike Camp (but didn't work out), and made an unofficial visit the next day. He has a Michigan OFFER and Michigan is his FAV. In 2002, he had 2,105 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns. As a defensive end, Coleman made 92 tackles and had 16 sacks. He also qualified for the state wrestling tournament, in the 189-lb. class. Johnson is TheInsiders' #47 Big Ten area recruit.

Wide Receivers

- Cameron Colvin (Sept. 13 official visit, STAN Nike stats: 6-1, 188 lbs., 4.31 in the 40, 3.85 shuttle, 32.4 inch vertical, 13 bench press reps. … 2.3 GPA/16 ACT) from Concord, Calif., DeLaSalle. On Aug. 20 his godfather told us, "We're coming to Michigan for the Notre Dame game, for Cameron's official visit. We play Archbishop Mitty in San Jose the night before. Then we're going to catch the redeye out of San Francisco. We'll arrive in Detroit at 10 in the morning. We'll rest a bit then go on over to Michigan ... Michigan is still Cameron's top school." But Miami is a threat, as is FSU, LSU, UCLA and USC. He was the Stanford Nike MVP. As a junior he caught 14 passes for 405 yards (28.9 yards per catch) and four touchdowns. - WR/TE Jaison Williams (Probable Sept. 13 official visit, USC Nike stats: 6-4, 215 lbs., 4.57 in the 40 … 10.75 sec. 100m, 260 lb. Bench press, 2.6 GPA, June 7 SAT) from Culver City, Calif. On Aug. 25 he told us, "The Michigan coaches had been talking to me about coming back for the Notre Dame game but I haven't heard anything from them about transportation or anything ... Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Washington, and West Virginia are my top schools in order. USC jumped way up when they offered, but Michigan is still my favorite." U-M has OFFERED him. As a junior he caught 18 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown. He is underrated as TheInsiders.com's #73 Pac Ten area prospect.
