With a few years left in his high school career, Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage 2019 outside linebacker Drake Thomas has already made his presence felt. The defensive standout burst onto the scene this season leading his conference in tackles with 123 including 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and an interception. He also ran for 400 yards on the ground as well.
That high production has caught the early attention of several programs and has seen a rise in his recruitment.
“It's starting to pick up now,” Thomas told The Michigan Insider. “I have a smaller offer from UNC Charlotte and in-state schools like North Carolina State, Duke and East Carolina have also been in contact. I've also received interest from Florida State, Virginia, Louisville and Alabama.”
One of the schools that saw the potential within the 6-foot, 205-pounder were the Wolverines and this past weekend, he knew how interested they truly were when he landed an offer from Michigan.
“My coach let me know and I was excited to hear the great news,” said Thomas. “I don't know much (about them), but I know Coach Harbaugh is a great coach and I'm excited to get know more about them.”
After picking an offer from the Wolverines, Thomas now hopes to check out Ann Arbor in the future and get a better understanding of everything the Maize and Blue have to offer.
“I was a little (surprised by the offer), but they had shown interest before they did (offer),” said Thomas. I'll have to learn more about them before I really know (on my interest), but I do know Michigan is a great place to go play football. I’ll definitely want to get up and check it out.”
