Tight end Kellen Freeman-Davis (6-6, 220 lbs., U-M Camp stats: 4.69 in the 40, 30 inch vertical, 3.5 GPA/20 ACT) from Adrian, Mich. was a U-M camper this summer, and also camped at Notre Dame and MSU, both of whom have offered him a scholarship.
I saw Kellen at the game Saturday.
"Oh, hi Tom. Kellen is out. Yes, he was at the game. I wasn't there with him, he went with a couple teammates. He talked to the coaches, and met with the players."
Did he talk with Coach Carr? Did they talk about an offer?
"Coach Carr told him they want to see how he's going to do in his first couple games. In fact they said there'd be a Michigan coach at his first game next weekend, against Chelsea."
He had offers from Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame. Any new ones?
"There is nothing new as far as offers. Miami is sending him a lot of mail, even though the Notre Dame transfer (Greg Olsen) is heading there. And Oregon is getting into the picture too."
"Kellen is taking recruiting seriously, and he's enjoying it. He is handling all of this himself. He is keeping his ear to the ground and being careful and deliberate. I'm proud of him.
"Kellen wanted to make this visit to Michigan. He called them back to set it up. He had a great time with the players -- with Braylon Edwards and others. And there's the aura of the Big House. Michigan has that consistant winning tradition, not many teams have that, not many of the other Big Ten teams.
"Kellen is is good shape grade-wise. He has a 3.2 core GPA, and a 3.5 overall. He wants to retake the ACT, but he took it a first time, without studying for it or anything ... and got a 20.
"For Kellen, it's just a matter of going out and having fun catching some balls now."
Freeman-Davis is TheInsiders' #94 Big Ten area prospect, and is also Tom Lemming's #2 tight end (his June list, although Freeman-Davis not in his August Top 100).
