Signing Day Capsule: Joel Honigford

Get to know Michigan's 2017 offensive line signee Joel Honigford on national signing day.

Honigford committed to the Wolverines over the summer and never looked back. The Ohioan landed an offer from the Wolverines and made a visit to Ann Arbor, the rest was history. Jim Harbaugh and Tim Drevno made an impact with Honigford and family which was one of the deciding factors of choosing the Wolverines.

"Has the desired frame for offensive tackle at the next level. Long, lean, and has continued to fill out through his high school career. Solid athlete. Moves with coordination and balance. Can still improve technique, particularly in pass protection while adding strength and more size to his frame but he has good upside."

“I like (Harbaugh) a lot,” said Honigford. “Obviously he’s pretty high energy. And just the stuff he was saying to my parents and I just liked what he had to say. He just seemed like a real guy. He wasn’t going to bull crap you or anything, which was nice.”

Time will tell what kind of impact Honigford will have on the program. With the need for offensive lineman at a premium, Honigford provides much-needed depth at a position of need. Perhaps giving his body a season to grow will do him wonders as he certainly will add competition on the offensive line for years to come.
