Michigan is still very much in the hunt for Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco DE Tyler Friday.

The huge New Jersey contingent on Michigan’s roster stands out Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco DE Tyler Friday.

Last year was a coming out party of sorts for Tyler Friday.  The Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco star was a force on both the offensive and defensive lines during his junior campaign, and proved himself worthy of all the interest he’d received from schools projecting him as a defensive end.

“We lost in the semifinals and I played in close to over 100 snaps in every game,” Friday said proudly. “I have 15 offers now. I’m open to every school as of now.”

Michigan was one of the earliest programs to enter the fray, extending him an offer back in the fall of 2015.  The mutual interest between the parties intensified when he visited Ann Arbor for the first time last summer.

"It was incredible," Friday told The Michigan Insider back in June. "The atmosphere there, just the way they carry themselves, and (coach) Jim Harbaugh is a great coach. I want to get in contact with him more."

The contact with the Wolverines has remained steady since then, and that has been especially true with Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown. That has gone a long way toward helping the Maize & Blue keep pace in his recruitment despite the arrival of traditional powers like Alabama, Ohio State, and Penn State.  An even bigger factor in that effort has been the noticeable Jersey representation on the roster. He tipped his cap to that distinction when asked what stood out to him most during his visit to the Great Lakes State.

“The feedback from the players,” he responded. “There are a few guys I played against. I feel like Jersey guys always stick together no matter where they are, so I would call the friends.”

Whether they’ll be teammates remains to be seen.  Getting the Garden State star back on campus appears to be among the Wolverines’ recruiting priorities.  No date has been set yet, but that’s not cause for alarm since he isn’t in a rush to reach a decision. Friday insists he will take his time evaluating all his suitors. He also insists Michigan is in the race for the long haul.

“Michigan is a great school all around,” he said.  “I think they have a great plan set up for the future.”
