Michigan coach John Beilein spent some time discussing senior day against Purdue and the return of Spike Albrecht.

Not only is Saturday's match-up with Purdue senior day for Michigan, it also marks the return of former Wolverine cult hero Spike Albrecht.

Having his moment in the sun a season ago, receiving his framed No. 2 jersey, introduced for one final time to the Crisler Center crowd, Albrecht found a new home in the off-season after deciding to continue his playing career as a graduate student for the Boilermakers.

Despite spending four years with the Wolverines, John Beilein says the communication between the two has been minimal this season.

"We've texted a couple times this year," Beilein said Friday. "I would love to have time to talk during the season with all my former players but there's been just a couple games in January I think, a couple of their wins I'd text him on. He would do the same with us."

Known for his freshman year and a performance for the ages in a national championship loss to Louisville, a game that saw Albrecht pour in 17 first half points against the Cardinals.

This season at Purdue has been up and down for Albrecht, appearing in 21 games off the bench, averaging just shy of two-points per contest, also logging a 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio.

For his former running mates Zak Irvin and Derrick Walton Jr., both look forward to briefly catching up with Albrecht.

"It'll be different," Irvin said. "It'll be good to see him though. It's been a while. Derrick and I were on FaceTime with him last night actually, talking to him.

"Wish him nothing but the best but hopefully he leaves here with a loss."

For Walton Jr., he and Irvin's journey to senior day has been filled with mass amounts of success, and several disappointments, the emotion of the moment is really setting in.

"I don't really think about it like that," Walton Jr. said." I've said that before. I think about I've got one more guaranteed game at least and getting another win.

"I don't really think about it any other way."
