All reported safe after U-M plane slides off runaway

The University of Michigan announced that a plane carrying the basketball squad was in an accident shortly before takeoff due to high winds, all are reported safe.

What was meant to be a short flight to D.C. turned into a nightmare on Wednesday afternoon for the University of Michigan basketball program.

According to a statement from the University, the plan carrying the basketball team was involved in an accident shortly before takeoff due to the high winds in the area.

Fortunately, all are reported safe.

The team will now find an alternative means of travel to attend the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, which starts tomorrow.

Official statement: "The Michigan men's basketball team plane was involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon. After attempting to take off in high winds,takeoff was aborted and, after strong braking, the plane slide off runway. The plane sustained extensive damage but everyone on board was safely evacuated and is safe. The team is making alternate travel plans."
