BUFORD, Ga. -- Jim Harbaugh is personally recruiting four-star 2018 cornerback Christopher Smith, so naturally the College Park (Ga.) Hapeville Charter standout is showing “high” interest in the Wolverines.
“The interest is high,” Smith said of Michigan. “They show a lot of love, that’s why I’m going down there next week. Actually I will visit Michigan State and Ohio State also during the three-day span. Just trying to get up there and see something different. The coaches show me a lot of love, so I’m just trying to get up to campus and see what it’s all about.”
What does Smith want to see while being on Michigan’s campus for the first time?
“Definitely a practice, I want to see how the coaches coach,” Smith said. “I just want to see the environment up there. I’ve heard a lot about Michigan. I definitely want to see the Big House. I’m ready to see their academic programs. I just want to see the whole nine, and see what they are all about.”
Being from the south and most notably a warmer climate, Smith maintains that neither distance or weather will play a factor in his recruitment.
“The distance doesn’t play a factor,” Smith said. “The weather, I don’t know, I just have to go up there to see. But If I feel like the school is the right fit for me I can get past the weather, that’s really not a big deal.”
However, he did point out a few of his factors when deciding on his future school.
“The deciding factor is definitely the relationship with the coaches,” Smith said. “If you don’t have a good relationship with the coaches then you don’t play. The education, I want to be able to see on and off the field, I definitely want to go to the NFL, but if I’m not fortunate to go, the I definitely want the opportunity to succeed with my job.”
As far as deciding timeline, Smith has an idea of when he would like to make his commitment known.
“I don’t have a set date,” Smith said. “But if I feel like I chose is 100%, then that’s the school I want to go, the I want to go ahead a make that change.”
