Why? Well, the Stockbridge (Ga.) Woodland standout says his Wolverines’ offer has “definitely” made him look harder at U-M.
“I was sort of interested in Michigan and now I am,” he said of his Michigan offer. “I’m trying to get more info on them and see what they’re like, education and all that good stuff.”
Now with his U-M offer in hand, Ohonba says Michigan is “near the top” of his recruitment and would like to possibly take a trip up to Ann Arbor for a visit sometime soon.
“I’m trying to build a cool relationship with their coaches,” he said. “Then I saw how they got their equipment, they have a lot of Jordan Brand, which I like. I’ve never had a pair of Jordan’s in my life, that’s one thing I’ve always dreamed of having, a pair of Jordan’s.”
Adding: “My visit would probably be during my senior season of football,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the coaching staff is like, hopefully meet a few players, see the facilities, education and the campus in its whole self.”
Upcoming, Ohonba says he’s planning to visit Clemson this spring. He also noted that he’s been to Alabama and Georgia recently for campus visits.
“One thing I’m looking at is the social environment of the whole campus,” he said of campus visits. “Because I need to feel comfortable there if I’m going to be here for four years. I need a good education, relationships and being comfortable, and just having fun, because if you’re not having fun, aint no point of it.”
Ohonba says he plans to announce his top schools before his senior season. As far as a decision timeline, he says most likely will make his commitment known after he takes all five of his official visits.
