Mayfield has “phenomenal” return visit to Michigan

Rising in-state offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield was back in Ann Arbor for Michigan’s spring game and left feeling even more amazed than before. He talks about the trip and more inside

Grand Rapids (Mich.) Catholic Central 2018 offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield was one of the top prospects on hand to watch Michigan’s spring game. The talented in-state tackle returned to Ann Arbor after visiting last month and walking away with an offer. His second trip has now made that affinity towards the Wolverines even stronger after experiencing a game day atmosphere in the Big House and getting to chat with the coaches once again.

“It was phenomenal,” Mayfield told The Michigan Insider. “I got to see and meet some of the players. Talk to the coaches and get to see what a game day atmosphere was like in Ann Arbor! I thought the atmosphere was amazing! The fans truly support them and showed lots of love towards me.”

“I talked with (Head) Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and (Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Tim) Drevno. They were so happy to have me down and were talking about the game and how they could see me lined up with them.”

The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder wasn’t alone as his entire family made the visit, who all were very impressed as well.

“They really loved it,” said Mayfield. “They really thought that everything about Michigan is great. The coaching staff is great and the atmosphere they thought was amazing for just a spring game!”

Mayfield notes he has narrowed down his list of suitors to Iowa, Michigan State and Michigan. He also now has a decision timeline in mind and what top factor he will be taking into consideration.

“Late May and just overall what I feel most comfortable with,” said Mayfield.
