Wolverine running backs coach Jay Harbaugh has been through Texas, Louisiana and most recently through the state of Tennessee evaluating future prospects. On Thursday, he watched the 6-foot-4, 330-pound lineman from Cordova (Tenn.) in junior offensive tackle Jerome Carvin. A day later, Michigan felt they saw all that they needed to and extended an offer out to the three-star standout.

“I called Coach Harbaugh, the running backs coach and he told me that (Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Tim) Drevno approved the offer and he liked me a lot,” Carvin told The Michigan Insider. “I was excited about it and that's huge that Michigan came down to Memphis to see me. It's a major opportunity for me and I'm just blessed and honored to have it.”

The Wolverines now join a lengthy and impressive offer list for the massive offensive tackle, but become a program he certainly wants to look into further.

“I’m very interested and I definitely will visit,” said Carvin. “I like the tradition of the program, the success of the program, and Coach Harbaugh is a great coach.”

Carvin planned to start narrowing down his list of suitors fairly soon, but after landing this offer from the Maize and Blue, he now has some more thinking to do.

“The offer definitely shook some things up for me and probably pushed back my top 10 that I was dropping after my spring ball,” said Carvin. “It’s a very good chance (Michigan makes my new top list)."

Carvin admitted that he’s still unsure of when he may make his commitment, but does know when it comes time to make that final decision, he will know the main factors taken into consideration.

“Academics, relationship with the coaches, my development as an offensive lineman and great strength and conditioning program,” said Carvin. “I'm not sure on a date to commit, but probably before my senior season or after my official visits.”
