Here is the Sept. 23rd update of our "Best Guess Michigan Recruiting Class" – the TE's, OL's, and DL's.

With three offensive and two defensive line commitments as of mid-September, Michigan may still be looking for two more of each. And a tight end.

Tight End

- Dale Thompson (6-4, 250 lbs., 4.7 in the 40, 2.7 GPA) from Corona, Calif. After thinking about visit U-M for the Notre Dame game, he has now put off his visits until after the season, listing USC, UCLA, Colorado, Michigan, and perhaps Miami. U-M has OFFERed him. In an injury-plagued junior season he caught six passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns. As a sophomore, he caught 16 passes for 350 yards and five touchdowns. - Kellen Freeman-Davis (2003 U-M Camper, 6-6, 220 lbs., 4.6 in the 40) from Adrian, Mich. He camped at U-M, Notre Dame and MSU. He has made unofficial visits for the Notre Dame and CMU games. After the ND game visit he told us, "I called Coach Carr last Tuesday and he offered me a scholarship. Michigan and Michigan State have offered me." And his top five are: "Michigan, and Michigan State, Notre Dame, Northwestern (Dec. 5 official visit) Miami, and Oregon." Freeman-Davis is TheInsiders #94 Big Ten area prospect.

- Michigan Commitment #6: Alex Mitchell (2003 U-M Camper, U-M Nike stats: 6-6, 317 lbs., 5.69 in the 40, 24 bench press reps., 5.09 sec. shuttle, 20.0 inch vertical, 3.4 GPA/21 ACT) from Bay City, Mich., Central. His dad emailed us: "Yes Michigan did offer Alex, and he committed during summer football camp (on Wed., June 18). He will be a Wolverine! He is happy, and the recruiting process is over for us. - Brett Gallimore (Oct. 18 official visit, 6-5, 290 lbs., 5.1 in the 40, 300-lb.bench press, 2.6 GPA) from Riverside, Mo., Park Hill South (Kansas City area). On Sept. 15 his dad told us, "He does like Michigan. They know he's really interested in Michigan." As far as visits, "He went to Nebraska for an unofficial visit three weekends ago, to Ohio State for an official visit the next week, then Michigan this past weekend (Sept. 13, unofficial). He is scheduled to go to Iowa for an official visit this (Sept. 20) weekend. Brett scheduled an official visit for Michigan as well -- Oct. 18th, the Illinois game weekend. And he will definitely make an official visit to Florida State, in early November. He will decide soon after that." He is also making an official visit to Purdue Sept. 26. - Courtney Abbott (6-9, 340 lbs., 5.23 in the 40, 400 lb. bench press, 2.3 GPA/860 SAT) from Atlanta, Ga., Westlake. He made an unofficial visit to Georgia Sept. 13, to LSU Sept. 20. Those may be his leaders, but he makes an official visit to Kentucky on Sept. 26, and has U-M and Florida in his top five as well. br>

- Michigan commitment #3 Chris Rogers (2003 U-M Camper, 6-3, 240 lbs., 4.67 in the 40 {Metro Index Combine}, 350-lb. bench press, 3.3 GPA/950 SAT) from Wexford, Pa., North Allegheny (in western Pa.). He committed on the first day of the Michigan Camp. As a junior he recorded 75 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss and eight sacks. He attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day, and was OFFERED there. - Michigan Commitment #5 Will Johnson (2003 U-M Camper, U-M Nike stats: 6-4.5, 278 lbs, 5.15 in the 40 {4.71 electronic at the U-M Camp}, 30 bench press reps., 27.9 inch vertical, 4.56 sec. Shuttle … 425 lb. bench press 3.8 GPA/qualified) from Lake Orion, Mich. He was offered at the U-M Camp, and went home and committed to Michigan the next day (Wed., June 18). Johnson could end up on the D-line or O-line. As a junior he recorded 97 tackles and 11 sacks.

- Alan Branch (Oct. 18 official visit, 2003 U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-6, 305 lbs., 5.2 in the 40, 4.65 in the shuttle, 2.5 GPA/17 ACT) from Albuquerque, New Mex., Cibola. On Sept. 13th he told us, "I talked to Coach English and Coach Sheridan recently. Coach English is setting things up for me to visit on October 17th. I have a game that Thursday so I'll be able to fly up to Michigan early Friday." He also has an Oct. 4 visit scheduled to ASU, and is considering visiting Washington and Texas A&M as well. He has offers from U-M, Asu, Texas Tech, Washington and the instate schools. He attended the U-M Camp for the whole week but didn't commit. He attended the US Army Combine in January. His parents are from Detroit, and his mom went to U-M for a year. He has a U-M OFFER.

- DE Dwayne Hendricks (Oct. 25 official visit, PSU Nike stats: 6-4, 250 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 30 inch vertical jump … 3.2 GPA/910 SAT) from Millville, New Jersey. As of mid-Sept. he will for sure make official visits to Miami (Jan., the fav?, he attended the Miami-Fla. Game for an unofficial visit), U-M and Iowa (Dec. 12). In mid-Aug. he confirmed to us that he'd visit for the Purdue game: "Yes, that's the one. A former player from here plays for Purdue … It'll be an official visit." He got a U-M visit and phone call in May. He was a spring practice visitor on April 5th, and U-M has OFFERED him. "Yes, my coach and I went. We watched practice, and we talked to pretty much every Michigan coach. That's when we set up the fall visit. We also met with Coach Carr -- that's when he offered me a Michigan scholarship." At the PSU Nike Camp he told us, "My favorites right now are the three schools that have offered me: in order, Michigan, Iowa and Virginia." But in mid-Aug. he said, "I'm not sure ... I don't really have one favorite now ... I'm not going to narrow it down until I take more visits. I'm just listing eight or ten schools: Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami, Florida, Georgia Tech, and Oklahoma. They've all offered me." As a junior he made 65 tackles and three sacks. - DE/OLB Eugene Germany (Oct. 18 official visit, USC Nike stats: 6-3 1/2, 248 lbs…. 4.65 in the 40, 2.3 GPA) from Pomona, Calif. In mid-Sept. he told us that his Michigan visit is set for the Illinois game weekend. "A lot of other schools want me to visit but Michigan is the only one set up right now. It's still Michigan and USC as my number one and two." He plans to announce his decision at the Calif./Fla. Game. He may also have a Nov. 1 visit set to Oregon State, with teammate Keston Cheathem. Germany grew up a U-M fan, and his coach and his recruiter Ron English are friends. As a junior he made166 tackles and nine sacks; he also caught 14 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. - Michael Massey (2003 U-M Camper, 6-5, 235 lbs., 4.82 in the 40 {electronic at the U-M Camp}, 225-lb. bench press, 2.5 GPA/960 SAT) from Cleveland St. Ignatius. He's the brother of Wolverine Pat Massey. In mid-Sept. he told SuperPrep that U-M leads slightly over OSU. On Sept. 3 he told us, "Michigan offered me a scholarship. Now it's down to OSU and Michigan. We have all Saturday games this year so I won't be able to go see any college games … I think I'm just going to wait until the season is over to take trips." Mike attended the Purdue basketball game, and the Wis. game last fall. He had injury problems his junior season, but made 81 tackles and nine sacks. As a tight end, Massey made 15 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown; as a DE 9 sacks, 81 tackles, and close to 20 quarterback hurries. He is TheInsiders.com's #53 Big Ten area prospect.

- Ryan Baker (2003 U-M Camper, 6-5, 235 lbs., 4.9 in the 40, 3.5 GPA) from Indianapolis, Ind., Bishop Chatard. He attended the Sept. 13 Notre Dame game. He attended the July 26 U-M Open House, after which his dad told us, "Will Johnson and Roger Allison were both there and Ryan talked to them.Will and Roger have actually been to our house!" He has an early U-M OFFER. Notre Dame may be the main competition, if they offer him. As a junior tight end last year he had 13 receptions for 251 yards (19.31 yards per carry); as a defensive end he had 42 solo tackles and 26 assisted tackles (for 68 total), 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks. - Jeff Schweiger (Aug. 30 official visit, Stan. Nike Camp stats: 6-4, 240 lbs., 4.56 in the 40, 4.11 in the shuttle, 31 bench press reps, 30.9 inch vertical ... 3.0 GPA) from San Jose, Calif., Valley Christian. Set. 1 Jeff told us, "We talked about the team and where he thinks they're going and how I would fit in. He's real confident that Michigan sells itself. I talked to Coach Sheridan about the depth chart and he said they're really going to need defensive lineman for the next couple years ... But this visit was really cool. I didn't realize how awesome it would be to play in front of that many people ... I'm going to take some more of my visits before I really think about that, but I don't think leaving California is going to be a really big deal. My folks want me to do whatever I think is best for me, so that's not a problem either ... I'll take all my visits then make my decision probably in January." Just before the visit Jeff told us, "USC, Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame (and Miami if they offer). I don't really have a favorite and I don't have any other visits set up, official or un-official." USC is considered the leader. Michigan visited him in May and OFFERed him. As a junior he made 138 tackles, 13 sacks, and ten tackles for loss. Schweiger is TheInsiders' #29 prospect.

- DE Thomas Herring (6-6, 290 lbs., 5.06 in the 40, 3.2 GPA, June 7 test) from Los Angeles Fremont. On Sept. 26 he told us, "We set it (U-M official visit) up for me to come back for the October 18th game against Illinois. Michigan is my first visit and I'm excited. USC and Miami are probably my top schools. Then it's Michigan, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. Those are the schools I plan to visit.
