Looking For LBs: Lawrence Timmons

I talked last night with the soft-spoken South Carolinian linebacker, Lawrence Timmons from Florence, S.C., Wilson.

I have to turn up my phone to hear linebacker Lawrence Timmons (Miami Nike stats: 6-1, 220 lbs., 4.55 in the 40, 30.4 inch vertical, 24 bench press reps … 325 lb., bench press, 3.3 GPA) from Florence, S.C., Wilson. But Lawrence is pleasant to talk to, giving thoughtful answers.

Do you have any official visits set?

"No, not yet. I plan to take my visits after the season."

Do you have a list of favorites?

"Ummm .... yeah .... I can give you a top three. Michigan is in it. Let's see ... right now ... it's Florida, Florida State, Michigan."

Is that a firm list, or does it change from day to day?

"It changes. Tennessee is in it sometimes, Miami is in it sometimes ..."

Who has offered you so far?

"I have 11 offers. Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson, Virginia, and others. Florida State and Miami haven't offered me yet."

Do you plan to make an official visit to Michigan for sure?

"Yes sir. Coach Campbell has been calling and talking to me. We haven't set a date, but it'll be in December."

Have you been to any games this fall?

"No sir."

You are playing both linebacker and wide receiver this season. What do you think you'll play in college?

"To tell you truth, I don't know. Either one -- Michigan is recruiting me for both ... ... probably it'll be linebacker though."

How is the season going so far?

"We've dropped two, we're 3-2. We lost by one point in our last game. Our conference play starts now. I'm averaging about ten tackles a game, and have three sacks. On offense I have about 20 catches."

As a junior linebacker Timmons made 95 tackles; on offense as a tight end, he had 42 catches for 690 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had an impressive performance at the Miami Nike Camp this past spring (see the stats above), and is TheInsiders' #21 Atlantic Area prospect.
