Catching CB Council

Tonight (Friday) is North Carolina cornerback <b>Rod Council</b>'s homecoming game. But we caught up with Rod beforehand, and he filled us in on the latest regarding his recruitment.

Your coach said you'd moved your official Michigan visit?

"Yes, to October 25th. For the Purdue game. We wanted to visit for a game. My coach is going to go with me. And also we thought that a Dec. 12 visit would interfere with the high school playoffs."

You made an unofficial visit to Notre Dame last weekend?

"Yes. I went to the game. I talked to the coaches afterward. Then I hung with the players Saturday night. And on Sunday I met with Coach Willingham for two hours."

Is Michigan calling you regularly.

"Sure. Coach Campbell just called Thursday -- that's when we changed the visit. We talked about how I'd fit in at Michigan. I want to compete for a spot my first year, I don't want to redshirt. And that's what Coach Campbell said Michigan had in mind for me."

Have you ever been to Michigan?

"No, this will be my first trip there."

Michigan has offered you a scholarship, right?

"Yes, Coach Carr offered me in the summer when I called and talked to him."

What other official visits do you have planned?

"My mom and grandma are going with me to Virginia Oct. 18th. I may visit Virginia Tech Nov. 1st. And I will visit one of the Florida schools, Florida State or Miami. It'll probaly be Miami since they were my favorite school as a kid. Deon Sanders was my favorite player -- but now that he's not playing anymore Charles Woodson is my favorite."

So is that your top five?

"Yes, in no order, Notre Dame, Michigan, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Miami."

When do you plan to decide?

"By the end of the regular season -- before the playoffs start."

Are you taking any unofficial visits for games?

"No. When I'm not taking official visits I want to stay home and chill."

How is your team doing so far?

"We're 5-1, and have our homecoming game tonight against Hopewell. I don't know my personal stats, but I'm playing cornerback and wide receiver."

What do you plan to major in in college?

"I'm looking to major in engineering. So every school I visit has to have both a good engineering school and a good football program."

Jamar Adams told us that he and you used to run track together and have been friends since you were kids?

"Yeah. Jamar and I talk once in a while."

Council is's #32 Atlantic area prospect.
