"I got a B- and a B+ so I'll be playing next week against Freedom," said De La Salle standout wide receiver Cameron Colvin (Sept. 13 official visit, STAN Nike stats: 6-1, 188 lbs., 4.31 in the 40, 3.85 shuttle, 32.4 inch vertical, 13 bench press reps. … 2.5 GPA/16 ACT).
Colvin is The Insiders #1 receiver in the West and #3 nationally. He's been practicing with his team and watching from the sideline and is obviously itching to get out on the field, "It won't be this week," Colvin said. "I'll be leaving with the team to go to San Diego (De La Salle plays La Costa Canyon), I'll also be taking my SAT while I'm down there, but I won't get to play until next week."
Scoring a couple of B's also pulled his grade point average up to nearly 2.5. After some personal issues the last couple of years Colvin's grades took a dip, but it was felt by many close to him that he would pull them back up. He's proven the support was well founded.
With the Michigan staff traveling so much lately, with a long trip to Oregon and back-to-back road games, it's been a while since they've been in contact with Colvin, "I talked to Coach Campbell and Coach English a couple weeks ago, mainly about the visit, but I haven't heard from them since."
Since the beginning Michigan has been the clear leader for Colvin's services. Other schools now seem to be making a charge for the talented wide out, "I really don't have a favorite now," he said. "I'm going to take all of my visits after the season then I hope to make my decision at the Army All-Star game on Jan. 2nd. I have to get all my visits in before the game though, otherwise I'll have to put it off until later, after I've taken them all."
Colvin's new list is up to seven teams, "Michigan, Miami, Florida State, USC, Oregon, Tennessee, and UCLA," he said. "Not in any particular order."
GBW first reported that Colvin and LA WR Early Doucet had become friends at the Miami camp this past summer, and had talked about visiting Michigan together as well as attending school together. Early had to cancel out of the Michigan visit and has since dropped the Wolverines, "I don't think he was too hot on the snow," Colvin said. "I've heard it gets pretty bad in Michigan during the winter but that's not going to effect my decision."
In other De La Salle news DB Jackie Bates had surgery on his foot recently. He had four screws and a pin inserted and will miss the remainder of the season.
Is Colvin Eligible to Play?
