Herring Ready for First Visit

There is a big upcoming recruiting weekend in store for the Wolverines. One of the "big" reasons is Fremont (Los Angeles) lineman Thomas Herring. Herring joins an impressive list of recruits visiting for this weekend's Homecoming festivities.

Fremont's Thomas Herring (USC Nike Camp stats - 6-6, 290 lbs, 4.8 in the 40, 3.5 GPA, 820 SAT) is all set to head to the Michigan campus this weekend. Herring's Pathfinders play an early game on Friday, allowing him to get out a little bit early. "We play Locke at 3:00, then I have an 8:00 flight to Michigan," Herring said. "I'm real excited about the trip. It will be my first visit."

Herring has never been to Michigan, even though he's traveled around the country while playing basketball. "I'm real excited about the visit," he said. "I've been hearing so much about how great a college Michigan is. It's exciting to think about being a part of something as special as Michigan football."

Herring plays a variety of positions on both sides of the ball, but says Michigan is recruiting him as a defensive end, which is where he wants to play. He's seen a couple of games and is impressed with the way Michigan uses their ends: "I like the way they rush, they way they get up the field to the quarterback."

Herring has told GBW in the past that leaving California would be a problem, but that his mother would prefer he leave so he can have a chance to see different places. "I'm not real comfortable leaving home even though my mom really wants me to go," Herring said. "My mom is ill and even though my sister is here I'm not sure if I'm real comfortable with leaving."

Herring doesn't have any other visits set up yet, though he is planning on visiting Miami and Oklahoma, and may visit Washington, LSU, Notre Dame, and Florida State. He added, "USC is so close to home I really don't need to take an official visit there."

Fremont has started off the season with a 4-0 record.
