Rod Council (Oct. 25 official visit, 5-11, 180 lbs. … 4.45 in the 40 at the Shrine Bowl Combine ... 3.8 GPA/960 SAT) is the Insiders #5 ranked defensive back in the Atlantic Region, and number 39 player overall. Council's visit was originally set for December 12, but was moved so he could watch a game. It was a good choice as Michigan put on an impressive performance in route to a decisive 31-3 Big Ten victory over Purdue.
GBW caught up with Council's coach, Pete Gilchrest, who joined his star player on the visit. "It was a great time and a great game," Gilchrest said. "The atmosphere in the stadium was amazing, the best one I've ever been in."
Before the game each recruit was sent to watch his position team in warm-ups. Council was seen with the defensive backs: "It looked like he enjoyed it, we haven't had a chance to sit down and talk about it yet, but I'm sure he had a good time. He was talking a lot with the other kids who were there."
Gilchrest said that aside from the game, they also got to see the facilities and talk with the coaches. How did all this effect Rod? "Oh I'm sure it made an impression," Gilchrest said. "He's got a couple more trips to take but this will be a big one as far as his decision goes."
Council took an unoffiial visit to Notre Dame on September 27th, and had an official visit to Virginia set up for last weekend. He told GBW previously he may visit Virginia Tech on November 1st. He list his top schools as Notre Dame, Michigan, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Miami in no order.
GBW will have more on the visit from Coach Gilchrest and Council later, stay tuned.
