Weekend Visitors: Rod Council

West Charlotte (North Carolina) DB Rod Council was one of four official visitors at Michigan Stadium this past Saturday as the Wolverins pummeled Purdue 31-3. Besides the score, Rod told GBW that there were a few other things that impressed him.

It's been said many times by people when they first step foot inside the hallowed grounds of Michigan Stadium on a fall Saturday. West Charlotte (North Carolina) DB Rod Council (Oct. 25 official visit, 5-11, 180 lbs. … 4.45 in the 40 at the Shrine Bowl Combine ... 3.8 GPA/960 SAT) is no different. "I've never experienced anything like it or seen that many people at a football game," he said after his visit this weekend. "I had a great time. There were a couple people there who knew who I was and were calling my name. That was cool. My host was Ryan Mundy and he was cool. I got to talk to Marlin Jackson a little bit, but that was it as far as players go. I talked to Coach Carr, Coach English, and Coach Campbell and they told me about playing time and where I would fit in."

Council was among four highly touted recruits to see the outstanding performance by the Wolverines. Also in attendence were WR Jaison Williams from California, DE/TE Ryan Baker from Indiana, and DE Dwayne Hendricks from New Jersey. They were all treated to a magnificent offensive and defensive display by Michigan. Council was impressed with the defensive scheme. "The defense really stood out in that game. They play a lot of nickel-back formations so they use the DB's a lot," Council said. "That tells me there is a lot of opportunity to play early here."

Was that kind of opportunity enough to make the speedster pull the trigger for U-M? "Nah, I didn't commit. I still have some other visits I want to take. I was at Virginia last weekend with my mother, my sister, and my aunt. It was pretty much the same."

Council told GBW earlier that he may take an offical visit to Virginia Tech on November 1st, and that he wouldn't be taking any unofficial visits because he liked to, "stay home and chill on the weekends." Apparantly those plans have changed a bit. "I'm taking an unoffical to Virginia Tech next weekend."

It had been reported that Council was friends with U-M commitment Jamar Adams. Council said he talks to Adams often. "We've known each other since like the 8th grade, and yes we used to run track together." Council said. "He talks about Michigan all the time. I knew he was going to go to Michigan because there was really no other school he talked about."

So, is there a chance the two could make it to Ann Arbor in tandem? "We haven't talked about going to school together or anything like that," he said. "We'll probably start working out together after basketball season so we can get ready for track."

Council said he has eight interceptions on the year and seven touchdowns offensively. West Charlotte, (7-1) plays West Mecklinberg, (1-7) this Friday.
