I caught up with 6-9, 200 lb. (and top 5 ranked nationally) sophomore PF Brandon Wright (Brentwood Academy, Brentwood Tennessee) and got his initial thoughts on his visit to Ann Arbor for the Maize and Blue Scrimmage and his recruitment in general. We were able to uncover some positive news along the way.

What is the early list of schools that you’re considering?

“I’m considering Duke, North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State.”

Is there any truth to the talk that you had given thought to a jump right into the league?

“I thought about it, but that’s a long way off. It really depends on what comes up.”

What position/positions do you play in high school?

“I play everything. I’ll do whatever it takes to help the team win. “

So you can play the backcourt positions?

Yeah…I try at least! (laughing)

For people who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your game?

“I’m close to a Tim Duncan type of player. I’m almost 6-10, but I think I can guard smaller people.”

What about your J?

“I can hit everything inside the three-point arc I can hit. I have to work on my shot behind the line.”

How was your experience at the Nike All-American Camp?

“It was a very good experience. I got to play against all the best players in the nation and it’s going to help me be better down the road.”

What put Michigan on your list of schools under consideration?

I have family in Ypsilanti, Detroit…all over the state…so that made this a place that I really wanted to look at.”

What about the coaches and players here at Michigan? What were your impressions of them?

“I really liked the coaches. They were some very nice guys. I also got a chance to meet all of the players and I really liked them too.”

Even though your decision is a ways off, what are some of the factors that you think are going to play into it?

“Location and playing time.”

When you say location, what do you mean?

“I’m from Nashville and I don’t really want to go too far away. I also want to go where I can play. I want to be able to play right away.”

So you’re looking to play as close to Nashville as possible?

“Not necessarily. I’ll go into the best situation for me. That’s why I’m out taking a look right now. Like you said, I don’t have to make my decision for a while.”

It seems that the young big man really enjoyed himself in Ann Arbor because sources tell us that he will be back for another visit next month! Stay tuned!
