Best Guess Rec. Class List:LB's,DB's,Kickers

Here is the Nov. 4th update of our "Best Guess Michigan Recruting Class" -- the linebackers, defensive backs and kickers.

Michigan may want two of each: linebackers, safeties, and cornerbacks.

Linebackers

Note: Michigan still seems short of linebacker prospects – or our knowledge of them is anyway.

Let's see ... right now ... it's Florida, Florida State, Michigan. Tennessee is in it sometimes, Miami is in it sometimes ..." The problem with Michigan for him is the distance, and the Florida schools are considered his leaders. Kicker

- PK/P David Lonie (Aug. 31 official visit, 6-5, 230 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 3.7 GPA) from Iowa Falls, Ia, Ellsworth Community College. On Sept. 25 he told us, "Michigan is my leader -- they're pretty set on getting me there. Michigan was the best visit I've ever taken. I've taken unofficial visits to Purdue, OSU, Cincinnati, and Louisville. I've got an official visit set up to Illinois on Oct. 11th. Cal is trying to get me out on official; OSU is still trying (Nov. 8 official visit). Nebraska wants me to come in for unofficial visit. I'll be enrolling in January, so I can go through spring ball." He makes an official visit to Georgia on Nov. 22 as well. On Aug. 31 his AD told us, "He was at Michigan's kicking camp last summer, as a place kicker. He told me he was the best long kicker there. He made 7 of 10. He said U-M's own kicker made 8 of 10 but that he, David, had a little more range. So Michigan invited him up for an official visit. I think his strengths are kickoffs and place kicking. We expect him to kick every kickoff into the end zone. He made 9 of 12 field goals last year. He can punt too, (40.1 average last year on a large number of kicks, 67 in nine games) but I'd call him more of a back-up punter. He's a better place kicker I'd say." Last year at Ellsworth Lonie made eight of 12 field goals with his longest from 48 yards, and with three of his misses being over 55 yards. In four games as of Sept. 25 this year he is five of seven.
