JC Soph. P/K David Lonie (6-5, 230 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 3.7 GPA) from Iowa Falls, Ia, Ellsworth Community College made an official visit to Michigan for the CMU game. We spoke to Lonie last night -- a decision is coming very soon. "Yeah, I'm in the process of making a decision here. Maybe tomorrow. It was always going to be Michigan, Ohio State or Cal."
We've heard you have a leader?
"Yeah, I sort of have a leader -- actually I'm definitely leaning to Cal at the moment. With Cal it's fact that I can step in right away and do both the punting and place kicking. I also like the climate there - it's more what I'm used to."
So, is that it for you then?
"I'm going to talk to Coach Carr one more time yet before I decide. It's a tough decision. Michigan is an awesome, great place, it's the biggest program in nation. But I also need to be in the best position for for me, as far as my future."
"But I do plan to wait and talk to Coach Carr ... he'll be calling me."
"My finals are over here Wednesday, and I return to Australia Friday. So I'll make my decision by then. And I'll enter college in January."
Note: Michigan has been recruiting Lonie as a dual kicker, but obviously Garrett Rivas seems to have won the place kicking job.
