Cibola High School (Albuquerque, N.M.) DL/LB Alan Branch (U-M Camper, US Army Combine stats: 6-6, 305 lbs., 5.2 in the 40, 4.65 in the shuttle, 2.5 GPA/17 ACT) is a supremely gifted athlete. GBW staff members have viewed him in action at a combine, a camp, on the basketball court, and on the football field... and each time we came away more impressed. That’s why the amount of attention he’s receiving from the University of Michigan is no surprise. After just having received a visit from UM assistant Ron English last week, the nimble big man hosted members of the Michigan staff yet again Tuesday night. GBW spoke with Alan this evening to get his thoughts on how things went.

I understand that Coach Carr was in your home last night. How did it go?

“Yeah, he and Coach English came by. It went pretty well. We talked about a lot of the same things that we had before. We talked about the program, the history of the school and what it would be like if I went there.”

Did you have any questions prior to the visit that you got answered last night?

“There weren’t any outstanding questions that I had. My parents and I have talked a lot with Coach English so most of the questions we had have already been addressed.”

Was that either of your parents first time meeting Coach Carr?

“Both my parents met Coach Carr when I went up to camp.”

Do you think he made a good impression on them?

“Well, they already had a good feeling about him from when they met him before. But yes, I think last night made a good impression too. He really seems down to earth. He seems like the kind of guy that I could talk to if I really needed to.”

"The first thing he said when he came in was 'you know I can whoop your butt in some pool.'(Laughing) Then we talked and he sat down and ate dinner with us. It was pretty nice."

I know you’ve been getting tired of the whole process. Are you still thinking about announcing your decision at the Army All-Star Game?

“I checked 'Yes' on the form that they Army sent me saying that I would do it because they said I should just in case I decided to. I’m not sure that I will. It’s just a possibility at this point.”

Do you have any other in-homes or visits scheduled at this point?

“Well, I just had an in-home with Texas Tech tonight that went pretty well, but I don’t have any others planned at this right now. I still don’t have any other visits planned at this point either.”

Are you ready to name a leader yet?

“No, I’m not.”
