California Sophomore Visits Ann Arbor

GBW spoke briefly with Harvard Westlake (Los Angeles, Ca) forward <strong>Alex Stepheson</strong> (6-8, 200lbs #31 player in class of 06 according to Hoopscoop) after his recent visit to Ann Arbor. This visit marks the 2nd visit from an out of state big timer from the 2006 class (the other being <a href="http://michigan.theinsiders.com/2/193823.html">Brandon Wright</a>). Alex shed light on his game and why he&#8217;s considering the Wolverines in this initial interview.


What position do you play right now?

"On my high school team I play power forward."

I know it’s a long way down the road, but what position do you see yourself playing incollege?

"In college I think I’ll play small forward."

Describe you game to me. Is there someone that I can compare you to on a college or pro level right now?

"I’d compare myself to Kevin Garnett. I can put the ball on the floor and I can shoot it from deep."

Were you at any of the Nike camps last year?

"No. I went to the double pump camp. It was an Adidas camp."

So you run for an AAU team that is with Adidas? What’s the name?

"Pump and Run."

So, how did you become interested in Michigan?

"Well, my sister goes to Michigan. She’s a business major, so I’m familiar with the school. Also, Coach Ramsey has been out to see me play."

What other schools have you been hearing from at the early stage?

"Besides Michigan, some of the schools I've been hearing from already are UCLA, USC, Arizona, Kentucky, Kansas, Cal, San Diego State, Colombia, Northwestern…along with a few more."

Tell me what your grades are like.

"I have like a 3.0."

Have you taken any of the tests yet?

"I took a PSAT but I haven’t gotten the results back yet."

Do you plan on doing any other unofficial visits?

"Mostly West Coast schools close to my home."
