Cass Tech’s Vernon Gholston is unquestionably one of the top athletes in the state of Michigan. The fact that he didn’t really become interested in football until the 10th grade hasn’t prevented suitors from paying attention to his eye-popping measureables. The recruiting process is now winding down for the athletic phenom and he took the time to fill GBW in on where things stood after his visit this past weekend.
Did you take your visit this past weekend?
“Yeah I took a visit to Iowa over the weekend. It was pretty nice.”
How did your visit to Michigan State the week prior go?
“That one was good as well.”
Did either of those visits move those schools up in your eyes?
Are Michigan and Ohio State still out front for you right now?
Some have suggested that Michigan was putting pressure on you prior to your OSU visit. Is that true?
“No it isn’t.”
Had you talked to any Michigan coaches prior to them leaving for the bowl game?
“Yeah. Coach Sheridan came by my school before my MSU visit. He just talked about scholarships and how they worked and everything, as well as how many people they offered. Then we went over some film and he showed me some of the detailed defensive line work.”
Your coach, Thomas Wilcher, is a former Michigan player. What type of advice has he been giving you?
“He just wants me to do what’s best for me. Wherever that’s at, he just wants me to be happy.”
Does he ever talk to you about Michigan?
“He throws it out there a little bit, but he says he wants me to be happy wherever I go.”
Do you have a timetable for your decision?
“I’ll probably make my decision no too long after my visit to Ohio State on January 9th.”
GBW will catch up with Vernon again in a few weeks.
