Next Year's Team Shaping Up

Today Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr announced the hiring of a new assistant coach.

It has been known for some time now that Jim Boccher was no longer with the team as assistant coach in charge of special teams. Today Coach Carr confirmed that former Michigan Assistant and Offensive Coordinator Mike Debord has returned to the team to take the open coaching spot. Debord, who left Michigan in January of 2000 to become Head Coach at Central Michigan University, started his new role at Michigan yesterday. In his previous stint at Michigan, Debord coached the offensive linemen from 1992-97, and then was Offensive Coordinator from 1997-1999. In his new role at Michigan, Debord will also act as Recruiting Coordinator. With Marlin Jackson, Braylon Edwards and David Baas also returning in 2004 (as well as, for the record, Adam Finley), this settles the key questions about possible changes for the 2004 Wolverines.
