Germany Putting Decision on Hold

Defensive standout Eugene Germany, from Pomona, Calif. High School, earlier told GoBlueWolverine Magazine that reports he had given a verbal commitment to the USC Trojans during his recent official visit were in error. Tuesday evening he set a new timetable for his announcement.

"I never committed to USC at the visit," Linebacker Eugene Germany (Oct. 18 official visit, USC Nike stats: 6 foot 3 1/2, 248 pounds. 4.65 in the 40, 2.4 GPA, 17 ACT) from Pomona, Calif. said. "But right now it's looking like it's going to be them."

The USC coaches were in the Germany home this evening.

Germany was at one time a strong Wolverine lean and said he even told the Michgian coaches he would be coming to Ann Arbor, though he didn't call it a commitment. "I've always loved Michigan since I was a kid," he said. "I started liking SC my 11th grade year. The whole program is really good and they're close to home. My dad wants me to go to SC, my mom said it was up to me." Germany's team-mate, defensive back Keston Cheathem, announced for Michigan Jan. 2 at the CaliFlorida Bowl Game.

He said he would make a formal announcement later this week. "Coach English is coming by tomorrow and we're going to talk about things," Germany said. "Then I'll have to think things over real hard and I'll let you know towards the end of the week."
