The mother of punter/'athlete' Johnny Ayers (6-1, 175 lbs., 3.7 GPA) from Vienna, Vir. (a suburb of D.C.), James Madison told us this (Saturday) evening:
"Michigan has a new special teams coach (Mike Debord), and he says he's never seen Johnny punt. So Johnny doesn't have a Michigan offer, although they sent him a ticket and invited him to come for an official visit this weekend. But we spoke to several knowedgable people here, and they said to go even though Michigan is not offering him -- they all told him to go on his visit anyway. 'Anything can happen,' they told him. And Michigan is clearly one of his favorite schools. So he's there, and we'll see what comes of it."
What happened with his Boston College visit last weekend?
"He got a greyshirt offer from Boston College - for January 2005. And he's visiting the University of Virginia next weekend."
Mrs. Ayers finished with:
"Adam Vinatieri (the New England Patriots' punter) is Johnny's punting coach. He told BC that Johnny WILL win the punting job there if he goes there."
"I'm Johnny's mother of course, so I'm biased. But whoever gets Johnny will be getting a whole lot more than they're thinking ... nobody knows that. He played on a running team, but he threw a 63 yard pass completion as a 12 year old."
Mrs. Ayers: "Johnny's in Ann Arbor!"
