Germany Down to Two; To Announce on TV

Three-plus days away from Signing Day 2004 and it's down to two prospects for Michigan. It's also down to two schools for linebacker/defensive end Eugene Germany from Pomona, Calif. High School. GoBlueWolverine spoke with Germany Saturday night and he told us one school had been dropped. He also updated his announcement plans.

"I've dropped Oregon State," Eugene Germany from Pomona, Calif. said. "It's down to Michigan and USC. My coach said some TV people called and they want me to announce on TV on Signing Day, so I'm going to do that, I don't know what time yet though."

Germany was reported to have committed to USC during his visit on Jan. 16, but he refuted those reports shortly after. He recently hosted coaches from USC and Michigan. "The SC coaches were here on Thursday, and the Michigan coaches were here Friday," Germany said. "Coach Orgeron and Coach Sarkisian were here from SC, and they just talked about me committing and where I would play. Coach English, Coach Herrmann, and Coach Sheridan from Michigan were here and basically did that same thing. SC wants me to play linebacker and Michigan wants me as a defensive end. It doesn't matter to me." These will be the final contacts made by the coaches until after Signing Day as the quiet period begins Saturday night at midnight, and the dead period begins Monday.

The big man made a new friend during his USC visit. "Cameron's my boy," Germany said, referring to wide receiver Cameron Colvin from Concord, Calif. De La Salle, Michigan's other remaining target. "He and I met during the visit and we talk all the time. Last time we talked was Friday; we talk about going to school together. I don't know what he's going to do though."

Germany said his parents are now going to let him make his decision. "My mom and dad are both letting me choose," he said. "My mom has always been that way, but my dad was kinda leaning towards me going to SC. Now he's just going to let me decide where I want to go."

Eugene said he is still getting pulled from both sides from friends who have committed to both school. "Yeah, Keston (Cheathem) is still on me to go to Michigan with him," Germany said. "And Tom-Tom (Thomas Herring) is telling me I should go to SC. They're all cool though -- I'll be good no matter what."

Germany's stats: (Oct. 18 U-M official visit, USC Nike stats: 4.65 in the 40, 2.4 GPA, 17 ACT). He is underrated as TheInsiders #26 West prospect.
