Jason Avant from Chicago (Carver Military Academy) is without question one of the nations finest athlete's regardless of position. Avant was a unanimous first team all-state selection as a junior and he more than likely will be named all-state in 2001.

Avant had 1,000 yards receiving and he scored 12 touchdowns this year from his wide receiver position. Jason also equaled his junior interception mark of eight in 2001.

What makes Jason Avant so special is his dedication. Everyone knows about his athleticism and what he can do on the playing field. What most people don't know is that Avant is dedicated to his teammates, his coaches and himself.

He's always working hard to make himself better and he's a tremendous leader. Whoever is lucky enough to get his signature come February will not only be getting a super athlete but also a tremendous person with a ton of character.

Avant has narrowed his list to five schools.

"I've set up two visits." Avant said. "I'm going to Michigan (11-30) and Illinois on (12-8). I'm also considering Georgia Tech and Virginia. I guess you can say that Tennessee is still in the picture.

Michigan is my leader. Michigan is a great wide receiver school plus I get along well with their receivers coach."

What will Avant be looking for on his official visits.

"I know most of the schools will be putting their best foot forward and they will tell me what I want to hear. I'm going to talking with the players a lot. I know they won't lie to me. I'm going to ask a lot of questions and I'll end up at the school were I feel the most comfortable."
