<p>Coach Carr took time out to discuss the 2004 crop of football recruits this morning. Here are a few quick hitters from Michigan&#8217;s field general on the latest additions to the Wolverine family.</p>

On the class:

“Received 22 letters of intent” (commit list)
“Awaiting one more possible announcement”
“Largest class signed since I’ve been head coach”
“Defensive line was highlighted”
“I like the QB and RB potential”
“RB was also highlighted”
“Wanted a RB that could come in and compete for immediate time”

On former recruiting coordinator Bill Sheridan:

“Bill Sheridan did an excellent job of putting this class together. He’s excited about having a recruiting area again and being able to get back out on the road. Mike DeBord will take over as recruiting coordinator.”

On defensive backs coach (and West Coast recruiter) Ron English:

“Ron English is an outstanding person with great people skills and he has brought a lot to the program. He’s an outstanding football coach and outstanding person.”

On Mike Hart:

“Dominated the competition at his level.”
“One heck of a kid”
“Great confidence”
“People said Jamie Morris (who was also about 5-9 185) would never play at Michigan and he ended up starting the first game of his freshman year!”

On Morgan Trent:

“People downplay him as a prospect because he committed early, and that’s a huge mistake!”
“Tremendous athlete”
“Played on both sides of the ball”
“Had a cast on his arm most of the year”
“Tough and competitive”

On Alex Mitchell:

“Really going to be a good football player”
“He has got the right temperament.”

On Jamar Adams:

“Will have an opportunity to compete this fall”
“Counting on Jamar to make an impact”

On Roger Allison:

“Not sure which side of the ball Roger will end up on.”
“Herrmann likes him on defense but he could end up at fullback.”
“Excellent speed”

On Max Martin:

“Wonderful potential”
“In the mold of Anthony Thomas and Chris Perry
“Max is the fastest of the 3.”
“Has the ability to compete right away”

On Doug Dutch:

“Can run very well”
“Can play more than one position”
“Liked his toughness and competitiveness”

On Marques Walton:

“His dad played in the NBA”
“Really athletic”
“Good quickness and toughness”
“Bill Sheridan really liked him”

On Alan Brach:

“Great athletic ability”
“Saw him run 50 yards for a TD”
“Family ties helped”(Parents both originally from Detroit, family still in the area)

Other team notes

  • Offensive linemen Andy Christophel and Jeff Gaston are NOT returning next year. Both will graduate.
  • Adam Kraus is moving from tight end to offensive line.
  • Former linebacker Sam Sword will be returning to Michigan as a graduate assistant. He will be working in the video department.
