Local Linebacker Fills Us In

GoBlueWolverine was having our weekly Monday night chat last night, when in popped in one of the state of Michigan's top 10-15 (or better) junior prospects, an Ann Arbor-area linebacker.

Junior linebacker Nick Lawrence from Brighton, Mich. told us the following last (Monday) night.

"I'm coming to Michigan's Junior Day Sunday, definitely."

"Coach Herrmann was recruiting me for Michigan -- he and a family friend and old coach of mine are old friends. Now Coach Debord is recruiting me."

"I'd say Michigan is my favorite. I would like to take my visits though."

"I measured 6-2, 204 lbs. at the U.S. Army Combine. I went down with a teammate, (offensive lineman) Frazer Burton. I was sick and almost didn't go, but I decided to go anyway. I'd lost some weight, and my 40 times were bad because of it (5.01 sec. was his fastest ... he did 15 bench press reps. which was good). I did better than that at the Michigan Camp last summer. I run a consistant 4.7. I plan on attending the OSU Nike Camp in April. I've been lifting and doing speed workouts before and after school so my 40 time should be pretty good there."

"This past season I had 123 tackles, 2 sacks, 8 pass breakups, and a blocked punt."

"Almost all the Big Ten schools and a good amount of SEC schools are in contact. I was invited to Miami Fla. Junior Day day but it conflicts with Michigan's so I'm not going. I don't have any scholarship offers yet."

"I was at Michigan's camp last summer, and will come back for a couple days this summer. Probably two days so I can go to others as well ... maybe MSU's and maybe OSU's."

Lawrence was named one of The Sporting News' Top 100 Sophomores.
