Cornerback/athlete Justin King from Monroeville, Pa. (in the Pittsburgh suburbs) had phenominal PSU Nike stats last spring: 5-11, 180 lbs., 2003 PSU Nike stats: 4.29 in the 40, 3.72 sec. shuttle, 37.1 inch vertical jump, 11 bench press reps. He also is a solid student with a 3.0 GPA. And Monroeville High School received several visits this past winter from Michigan coaches as they were making their allowed Dec.-Jan. in-school visits to recruits.
King and his parents made it to Ann Arbor for Sunday's Junior Day. Justin was all smiles at the OSU game (in his Steelers jersey and cap) sitting amidst Jackson Mich.'s Antonio Bass, Grand Rapids' Kevin Grady, Muskegon's Terrance Taylor, and also Las Vegas LB Ryan Reynolds and Ill. OL Dan Doering. We reached Justin last night and asked him how things went for him:
"It was very good trip! I talked in depth with Coach English the defensive backs coach, with Coach Carr,
and with Coach Loeffler, who recruits my area for Michigan."
"We just talked football -- we talked about what it's like to be a Michigan Wolverine."
Do you have a 'short list' of schools?
"Michigan and Penn State are up there at the top right now."
Are you considering other schools as well?
"I'm also considering Nore Dame and Ohio State."
Have you gone to Junior Days to any of those schools this winter?
"No, just to Michigan."
Are you coming back to Michigan for a spring practice?
"Of course! I'll be back in a few weeks."
King is considered one of the nation's Top 25 Junior Prospects, and the state of Pennsylvania's top junior. For his junior season he rushed as a junior for 1,763 yards (8.2 yards per carry) and 29 touchdowns; and as a cornerback he recorded 28 tackles, three fumble recoveries, and three interceptions.
