SoCal MSL/TheInsiders Combine - Day Two

Sunday was day two of the MSL/TheInsiders Combine at Long Beach, Calif. Poly High School. Coaches from the college ranks as well as the NFL put the players through various drills in order to test strength and skill. GoBlueWolverine Magazine was in attendence and caught with a couple of kids that had been contacted by Michigan. Also, there will brief updates on kids we reported on from Saturday's session.

Another beautiful and warm Southern California day greeted another batch of nearly 40 kids Sunday for the final day of the MSL/TheInsiders Combine at Long Beach, Calif. Poly High School. Kids are instructed by coaches from college and the NFL, including former San Diego Chargers great Chuck Muncie.

When the kids arrive bright and early the first order of business is obtaining correct heights and weights. Then prospects are shuffled to the weight room where, after stretching and warm-up reps, they perform the bench press repetitions with a weight of 185 pounds. Then it is on to the verticle leap test. For this combine the test alters from previous camps in that one step is allowed before the leap.

After these tests it's out to the field for more stretching and warm-ups. The coaches stress the importance of this particular area of training, noting that most muscle pulls and tears result from inadequate stretching and warm-ups. Then its break time where the coaches are introduced. The final part of the morning's first session are the drills. Attendees are put through a variety of agility tests, each test being run at least twice for each player. The coaches thoroughly explain the process for each test and the reason why the test is given.

After lunch the players are broken up into groups by position and out through drills specific to their specialties. After a full day of intense instruction the kids are sent home. Each player has been throughly filmed for further evaluation.

For Michigan fans, two names stood out today. DB/WR Kevin Thomas, Jr. from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, Calif. claims he's been receiving letters from the Wolverine staff. Also, a name to keep on the back burner is kicker/punter Ryan Jackson from Chaminade College Prep High School in West Hills, Calif. Quarterback Chris Turner from Chaminade attended yesterday's camp and also claims to be receiving letters from Michigan.

For our Premium Subscribers GoBlueWolverine Magazine will have further reports on these players, as well as brief updates on players in attendence Saturday, later today.
