Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (6-2, 190 lbs., 4.4 in the 40) from Charlotte, N. Car. is the cousin of Wolverine tight end Tim Massaquoi. And Mohamed is a high school star in his own right. Mohamed plays for Independence High School, the reigning powerhouse in the state with a 65 game winning streak. As a junior Mohamed helped his team to a 16-0 record and state championship by grabbing 87 passes for 1,825 yards and 23 touchdowns.
As far as recruiting goes he's going to take his time with things, telling us on Sunday:
"I haven't really thought that much about recruiting yet."
Do you and Tim talk about Michigan?
"Oh sure, just as family. Michigan comes up once in a while, but he's not pushing me or anything."
Who has offered you a scholarship so far?
"Well, Michigan has offered me. I talked to Coach Campbell back in the winter and he offered me a scholarship."
Has anyone else offered you?
"Besides Michigan, Tennessee and schools in the ACC: Virginia, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina."
Do you have a list of favorites yet?
"No. I'd just say I'm open right now."
This winter/spring Mohamed went to junior days at Junior Days at Tennessee, North Carolina, NC State, and Duke. And when we asked him whether he'd thought of coming to Michigan, either for the Spring Game or the Michigan Camp this summer he said:
"Not really. I kind've doubt I'll go that far away for camp."
Massaquoi is a MaxEmfinger.com 4-star wideout, and is a top student as well with a 4.18 GPA and an 1,100 SAT score.
