"I'm in the car...we're on our way up to Michigan!

So said one of the Mid-Atlantic area's top prospects, and perhaps one of the top 50 prospects in the country. Where is he on his way to? The Michigan Spring game!

We talked earlier in the week to linebacker Derek Nicholson, Max Emfinger's #1 Insider Linebacker prospect from Winston Salem, N.C., Mt. Tabor.

At that time he told us, "I'd decided to go to the Michigan Spring Game. But ... my parents and I have been traveling so much that we've decided to take a break this weekend -- to not go anywhere."

However, as it turned out a teammate was coming up to the game anyway -- so Derek jumped in the car with them! We just heard (Friday afternoon) from Derek via cell phone. He told us:

"I'm in the car with my teammate Anthony Ritchie. We're in West Virginia, and we're on our way up to Michigan right now! We'll be at the Michigan Spring Game tomorrow!"

Nicholson is a 6-2, 230 pounder, with stats of: 4.6 in the 40, 350 lb. bench press, 32 inch vertical jump. His brother A.J. plays linebacker for Florida State (in the end will this be a tough U-M/FSU recruiting battle ... we'll see ... his dad was an all-ACC LB at Carolina as well), and in the past three weeks the Nicholsons have visited FSU, North Carolina, and North Carolina State. He has offers from all those schools, plus Tennessee, Georgia, Notre Dame, Virginia and others.

As a junior Nicholson made 181 tackles, including 27 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks.
