I understand that Eric visited Michigan.

“Yeah, he visited Michigan in March during the NIT. He didn’t go to Michigan’s game though.”

How did he like his visit?

“He spoke very highly of the trip. He really liked Coach Amaker. Eric is a different kind of young man. He is mature beyond his years. He has the mentality of a 28-30 year old. He analyzes and watches things and he’s very serious about what he does. He’s very serious about basketball, very serious about his academics, and he works very hard at both. He wants to be in that kind of environment. That’s what impressed him about Michigan. He liked Coach Amaker. He got to watch a practice and liked the team’s work ethic. He thought that they worked real hard. And he really likes the academic situation at Michigan.“

How many times has Michigan been out to see him?

“Coach Swenson has been out at least three times and I think Coach Amaker just came out last week.”

Does Eric have a favorite at this time?

“No he doesn’t.”

How about a top 5?

“No he doesn’t. We’re probably going to start trimming the list down in May. We’re going to wait this open period out and see what happens. Eric is willing to go anywhere in the country so we’re going to take our time with it. Talking to his high school coach, who’s very actively involved in this, we’ve all come to the agreement that we’re just going to take our time. Everything is so broad with him. At the same time, we can’t sit around and wait for everyone to come in either. So probably in early May we’re going to start putting a list out.”

What do you think will be the most significant factors in his choice?

“I honestly think, after talking to Eric, that the environment of the program will be a big factor. Like I said, he wants to be around kids that work hard and are serious about what they do. He also wants to be in a good academic situation. He goes to a very good academic school. St Andrews is one of the 10 best schools in the country according to US News, so he’s use to that environment. He does well at St. Andrews. He just has great work ethic in everything he does. He wants to be around programs with serious people because he is a serious young man.”

Does he have a timetable for when he wants to sign?

“We’re going to get him signed early. He wants to try to sign in November.”
