DB Harrison and RB Ringer: The Dayton Duo

Probably the top teammate-duo at Saturday's OSU Nike Camp was CB Brandon Harrison and RB Javon Ringer from Dayton Chaminade-Julienne. Ringer is considered the top JR RB in Ohio, and Harrison one of the top two DB's. Both were in the top 6-8 combine performers overall -- and both have serious interest in Michigan. We got a chance to have a good talk with Brandon and Javon.

First Brandon Harrison.

Brandon Harrison

What were your combine stats, Brandon?

"I measured 5-9. And I weighed 193 pounds. I told you last winter that I was pushing 200!"

Note: Brandon is proud of that weight because of the speed at which he can carry it down the field!

"I'm 193 lbs., but I ran a 4-25 40! and I had a 37 inch vertical jump!"

So you're 5-9 ... but at 193 lbs. and with that speed and vertical jump, do you think you are able to play 'bigger' than your height?

"Definitely! That's my point! And I showed it out there in the drills too, didn't I! I'm able to be physical, pack a punch and manhandle a receiver, and then beat them down the field too!"

Well Brandon certainly did that Saturday. He took every QB-WR-DB-drill snap as a personal battle, and from what we saw he won them all -- he held most receivers up at the line of scrimmage, and when one did get around him he turned and beat him to the ball. There was not a single completion against Harrison as far as we saw!

Are you still coming to the Michigan Camp this summer?

"Definitely. I'm going to show Coach English I can do it there too. Coach English and my father and I had a good talk at the Junior Day, as we told you on that day -- Michigan is graduating both their cornerbacks. Coach English showed me the depth chart -- I think I'd have a good chance come in and help them."

As a junior Harrison made 78 tackles and had three interceptions; he also had 6 touchdowns, 3 as a RB (in a wishbone with Javon Ringer), and 3 as a kick returner. He has a 3.0 GPA/17 ACT. He is Max Emfinger's #2 Free Safety and has an Iowa offer. He also attended the Feb. 29 U-M Junior Day.

And Javon Ringer told us:

"I measured 5-10, 200 lbs. But I didn't like my 40 time! I think I'm going to 'scratch' it."

What was it?

"I ran a 4.44."

That's good for a guy your size! You're just comparing yourself to Brandon's time!

"Yeah ..." He looked down -- then he perked up. "But, hey -- I beat him in the shuttle! I had a 3.87 (seconds)."

Brandon says he's coming to the Michigan Camp this summer? You've mentioned it before too ...

"Yeah, I'm coming to the Michigan Camp. And to Ohio State's. Those are probably my top schools."

As a junior Ringer, considered the top running back in Ohio, rushed for 2,356 rushing yards (10.8 yards per carry) and 30 touchdowns; as a sophomore he ran for 2,028 yards (10.6 yards per carry) and another 30 touchdowns. The Max Emfinger 4 star prospect has an Iowa offer.
