Usher Receives Two More Offers

Things are starting to warm up for wide receiver Austin Usher from Jefferson High School in Los Angeles. Two more schools threw their hats into the ring for the talented speedster. When GoBlueWolverine Magazine last spoke with Usher he told us Michigan was a childhood favorite. Are the Wolverines still in contention?

"I just got offers today from Washington State and Arizona State," Austin Usher said. "Those schools aren't really on the top of my list but I'll consider them since they offered." Usher also reports an offer from Arizona.

Usher lists his top five as, "Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, Oregon State and Florida State. "I want to go to school with good tradition, that's why I like Florida State," he said. "That's why I like Michigan too. I've received some hand-written letters from them and I think they are coming out during the evaluation period, but I'm not sure."

The 6 foot 4, 198 pound Usher has a brother, Whitfield, who plays for Oregon State and he has been on the UCLA campus several times this spring. This Sunday he plans to attend the USC camp. "I really don't have a favorite now," he said. "Things are changing so I'm going to go through the whole process so I really see what I'm going to get."

Usher is the proud dad of a two-month old son and says while it would be diffcult to go away, "If the best thing for me is to go away from home then I will," he said. "I have great family support so my son will be ok."

In his junior year Usher had 21 catches for 695 yards and 12 touchdowns. While Usher is primarily a receiver, his coach, Loi Johnson, told GBW earlier, "We're going to use him as a safety next season, he is so talented we need to get him on the field so he can help us the most."

Usher said he is planning to attend the Nike Camp at Stanford next month.
